5 of the Strangest Things Found in Self-Storage Units

Looking for a place to store your extra belongings? A storage unit may be the perfect solution! However, before you rent one, be aware that strange things have been found in them. For example, in 2009, a man in Utah discovered a human skull in his storage unit. In 2010, an Indianapolis woman found a dead body stuffed inside a Rubbermaid container. And in 2012, police in Florida found a marijuana grow operation inside a self-storage unit. There is no shortage of weird, odd and bizarre things found in storage. Keep reading to learn more about five of the strangest things found in self-storage units. Always remember to check your unit before you buy it! 

1. A Live, Full-Grown Tiger

In 2011, a self-storage unit in Tucson, Arizona was auctioned off after the tenant failed to pay rent. The winner of the auction was surprised to find a live, full-grown tiger inside. Apparently, the previous tenant had been keeping the tiger as a pet. Officials from the Arizona Game and Fish Department were called in to take possession of the animal. 

2. A Working Methamphetamine Lab

In March of 2014, police in Independence, Missouri discovered a working methamphetamine lab inside a self-storage unit. The lab was reportedly being used to produce drugs for sale on the street. Four people were arrested in connection with the operation. 

3. A Dead Body

In December of 2013, police in Everett, Washington were called to investigate a foul odor coming from a self-storage unit. When they arrived, they discovered the body of a woman who had apparently been dead for some time. The cause of death was not released, but officials believe she may have died of natural causes.

4. A Fortune in Gold Coins

In March of 2014, a man in San Diego discovered a treasure trove of gold coins inside his self-storage unit. The coins, which were all dated between 1847 and 1894, were estimated to be worth $1 million. The owner of the storage unit had passed away several years earlier and had never been found. Time to check your storage unit for a fortune! 

5. A Live Alligator

In March of 2014, a man in Santa Fe, Texas discovered a live alligator inside his self-storage unit. The alligator had apparently been living there for some time and was very hungry. Animal control officials were called in to take possession of the reptile. Thankfully, no one was harmed, and the alligator was gently relocated to somewhere more suitable for itself.
