US ‘abolishes’ Spanish monarchy

The White House posted a readout of President Biden’s call with “president” of Spain

On Tuesday, the White House repeatedly referenced Pedro Sanchez, Spanish Prime Minister. “president”Spain in a reading of his conversation with US President Joe Biden in advance of the NATO summit in Madrid. Spain is a constitutional monarchy that has existed for nearly 50 years.

Sanchez was mentioned in three different ways. “president”Spain once in title, twice in body and three times in text of Tuesday’s readout. Biden mentioned the NATO meeting that will begin June 29th and thanked Spain. “security and humanitarian assistance”Ukraine

Sanchez does have “Presidente del Gobierno de España”In his Twitter bio, he describes himself as “president of Spain’s government”. However, the traditional translation is “prime minister,”Knowing that King Felipe VI of Spain is the head of Spanish state, it’s no surprise.
