Signs You Need a Roof Replacement

Your roof is essentially the structural support and protection for your home. If you’re looking at pitted or cracked shingles, holes in the roof, or warped or sagging boards, don’t let it continue to go unrepaired. Repairing these problems now can prevent further damage down the road. Another sign that your roof needs to be replaced is if you notice mold or rot forming in your rafters. If you’re looking at any of these problems, be sure to give an excellent roofing company a call today. They can help you determine what exactly is wrong with your roof and recommend the best course of action for you!

Signs you need to replace your roof

1. Your roof is old

As roofs age, they become less able to protect your home from the elements. This can cause issues such as leaks and cracks in walls, ceilings, and even electrical work. Contact a professional roofing contractor, if you haven’t replaced your roof within the last 20-25 years or so, it may be time for a new one!

2. Your roof has extensive, obvious problems

If it’s apparent that you need new shingles, there’s no sense in putting it off. Some issues like warped boards and loose gravel may not be as obvious at first glance, however they can lead to further, more costly damage down the road. For instance, warped boards could easily lead to leaks if you don’t replace them before they cause further damage.

3. You can see water spots on the ceiling below

If water spots are present on your ceiling, it means that the roof is leaking and needs to be repaired. Be sure to give a reliable roofing company a call before the problem gets worse and turns into an expensive repair job!

4. There are rust stains on the exterior walls surrounding your home

While small rust stains may not mean your roof needs to be replaced, large, extensive ones most certainly do. Rust on exterior walls is usually a sign that your shingles are rotting and allowing moisture to seep into your home. This could lead to a number of costly repairs down the road if it’s left unrepaired!

5. The shingles are warping or curling up at the edges

When shingles start to curl up at the edges, it means they are aging and becoming brittle. Curled shingles will eventually crack over time, causing leaks that could cause further damage to your roof down the road.

6. Some of the shingles are missing

If any of these are your roof, it’s time for a roof replacement. A shingle that is curling up at the end, for example, can fly away and land on your neighbor’s yard. If they step on it, the shingle can cause an injury. Not to mention, if your shingles are curling up at the edges, this reduces the weatherproofing protection of your roof.
