Raymond T. Odierno, Army general who helped devise Iraq War strategy, dies at 67
Gen. Odierno never lost interest in Army sports and often stood on the sideline at football games, sometimes joining in players’ huddles. He addressed the Army football team in 2012 as chief of staff. This was before his game against Air Force, which is a service-academy rival. A former Army football player, John “J.T.” Thomson, now a retired three-star general, was in the locker room that day. After Gen. Odierno’s inspiring pregame speech, Army rolled past Air Force, 41-21.
