The U.N. presentation that justified the invasion of Iraq more than 10 years later is what most Iraqis will remember. It cast Saddam, a global menace who had weapons of mass destruction and even displayed a bottle of what he claimed could be a biological weapon as an important threat. Powell had called Iraq’s claims that it had no such weapons “a web of lies.” No WMD were ever found, however, and the speech was later derided as a low point in his career.
