Book Review: The Silent Count by E.A Smiroldo

The Silent Count is a sci-fi-thriller novel by international author E.A. Smiroldo published last July 12 under Solstice Publishing. In this environmental-thriller debut book, Smiroldo takes us on an exciting journey while facing one of the most relevant issues nowadays, which is climate change.

The book follows the story of Dara Bouldin, a geo-engineering student who works at a government agency. Dara was assigned to work on a national project involving nuclear technology to mitigate the consequences of climate change. Climate change has been an ongoing issue for years, and it has brought a lot of disastrous events, such as extreme wildfires, floods, tornadoes, and more, which affect not just the economy but also the lives of everyone. With these consequences worsening, now is the time to step forward and take action. But it’s not easy as Dara finds herself caught up with political issues, deception, and intrigues. Dara’s connections with her past fiancé Jericho Wells and Russian co-worker Dmitry Ivanov make it more difficult for her. Would they be able to solve the crisis of climate change in the end?

For a debut novel, E.A. Smiroldo produced a well-written book that keeps you at the edge of your seat and informs you of the harsh effects of climate change in the long run. It is interesting to read and will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. The Silent Count’s protagonist, Dara, went through a lot, and I admire her determination to stick to her core despite what other people throw at her.

Overall, The Silent Count is such a roller-coaster read. I appreciate the light and romance aspect of the earlier parts, but the pacing immediately went up in the second half—with twists and turns. If you’re looking for an environmental read that revolves around saving the planet earth from climate change, then this book is for you!
