Biden dangles abortion rights for midterm votes — Analysis

While President Joe Biden may have signed an executive directive to protect abortion access, the key to his solution is to restore rights that were taken away from him by an “out-of-control”The US Supreme Court will elect more Democrats to Congress in order to push for a national law that allows women and girls to end their pregnancies.

Biden, who was signing an executive order on Friday at White House said that Americans should elect at most two pro-abortion senators. They also need strong support in Congress for abortion rights. The high court last month overturned Roe v. Wade, ruling that abortion isn’t constitutionally protected and is a matter for legislators to decide.

“It is my hope and strong belief that women will in fact turn out in record numbers to reclaim the rights that have [been] taken from them by the court,” Biden said. “Let me be clear, while I wish it had not come to this, this is the fastest route available. I’m just stating a basic, fundamental notion. The fastest way to restore Roe is to pass a national law codifying Roe.” 

President Trump blasted Supreme Court for overturning Roe. He called it a “death sentence”. “terrible, extreme and totally wrong-headed.” He argued that conservative justices didn’t base their decision on legal principles.

“That wasn’t about the constitution or the law,” Biden said. “It was about a deep, long-seeded antipathy toward Roe and the broader right to privacy.”

What we’re witnessing wasn’t a constitutional judgment. It was simply an exercise of raw political power.

In the executive order, HHS is directed to provide emergency contraceptives and ensure access to medical care. This executive order also directs the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to safeguard the privacy rights of those who seek information about abortion.

Biden instructed the Department of Justice that it protect women’s right to travel in states that permit abortion, and provide volunteer legal representation for those who are able to. 13 states have banned abortion, with another dozen expected to do so in the coming weeks.

With Biden’s approval ratings at historic lows, polling suggests that Democrats will lose congressional seats in November’s midterm elections. Biden said that voters must vote on issues such as abortion, which he believes will help his party win the elections. “protect our nation from an extremist agenda that is antithetical to everything we believe as Americans.”

“The challenge is, go out and vote,”He concluded. “For God’s sake, there’s an election in November. Vote, vote, vote, vote.”
