Woman quarantines in plane toilet over positive Covid test — Analysis
After taking the transatlantic flight test, the woman from the USA asked the attendant to put her in the toilet for four hours.
A teacher from Chicago had to self-isolate in an airplane’s lavatory for four hours over concerns for the health of fellow passengers, after a rapid coronavirus test she did mid-flight to Iceland turned out positive.
Marisa Fotieo, a woman who was traveling to Europe last week for vacation, suddenly felt a sore throat. It could have been somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean.
She brought several quick testing tools with her to Icelandair on her trip during the pandemic. After using one of the kits, she went to the toilet and discovered that she was suffering from Covid-19.
Fotieo swiftly informed the flight attendant, who ruled that there weren’t enough empty seats on the plane to properly isolate her.
13 On Your Side was informed by the woman that she fears she may infect passengers. “just stay in the bathroom for the rest of the flight.”
“I can’t believe I spent four hours in that bathroom, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do,”As the teacher said,
A video of her in the lavatory she uploaded was what she called “her”. “VIP quarantine quarters,”TikTok has received several million views, and many commenters have praised it.
In the clip, Fotieo didn’t seem too upset that her vacation had been ruined. Fotieo was wearing at least three masks on her face and flashing a win sign to the camera.
Following the landing of the plane in Icelandic capital Reykjavik the woman was transferred to the Red Cross Humanitarian Hotel. Her ten-day quarantine is still in process. She said that she was feeling good and would be leaving in the next few days.
Fotieo’s father and brother, who were on the same flight, have both tested negative for the virus and could continue their journey to Switzerland.
