US assassinates ISIS leader

Maher al-Agal, one of the terror group’s top four commanders, was killed in an air strike in Syria

In a strike by drones on Tuesday, the US shot and killed Maher al-Agal (formerly ISIS), leader of Islamic State (IS) in Syria. Al-Agal was one of the group’s top four leaders, and the strike also targeted one of his deputies, officials say.

Al-Agal’s death was announced on Tuesday by  the Pentagon’s Central Command (CENTCOM), the military command covering the Middle East. CENTCOM stated in statements that Al-Agal’s death was announced by several US media outlets. It said the attack took place just outside Jindayris, northwest Syria.
