The economy on the brink, Taliban rely on former technocrats

These technocrats quietly advise the Taliban leaders in running the financial system that is bankrupt. They give them advice on what and how they should act. But, as seasoned experts, they see no way out of Afghanistan’s economic quagmire: With billions in international funds frozen, the best they can muster in domestic revenues is $500 million to $700 million, not enough to pay public salaries or provide basic goods and services.
