Jihadist knife attack prevented by police — Analysis

French security personnel have stopped a plot to stab people in public spaces during Christmas. Two Islamic State sympathizers were arrested. They hoped to stab holiday shoppers in order to become martyrs.

According to media reports citing sources within the French judiciary, the DGSI arrested two men, both 23, on November 29 in the Île-de-France department. Two men were detained, one in Meaux and the other in Pecq. In an operation by the anti-terrorism prosecutions, both were arrested and taken to jail on December 3. Both have yet to be identified.

According to reports, one of the suspects confessed that they had planned to attack public buildings with knives by Christmas so they could become martyrs.
