Investigation reveals whether Notre Dame fire was criminal – media — Analysis

A three-year-old fire that ravaged Paris’ medieval Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral in 2019 was unprovoked. An inquiry revealed this fact, nearly three years after it started.

Le Parisien reports Tuesday that expert reconstructionists have concluded the cause of fire wasn’t a deliberate act. These preliminary results confirmed the June 2019 findings, which indicated that there wasn’t any criminality.

At the moment, per the outlet’s information, the investigators consider two main options as the most likely causes of the fire: a cigarette butt or a short circuit.

There was speculation that arson might have been the cause. Discussions intensified after a 2020 fire which destroyed Nantes Cathedral. Later, it was confirmed that arson had been committed.

Notre-Dame redesign slammed as ‘kitsch’ to go on

Reconstruction of Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral is still ongoing. This has resulted in some significant discoveries. The French Ministry of Culture announced on Monday that the archeologists found several tombs and a 14th-century sarcophagus – both “Amazing scientific quality,” as well as pieces of painted sculptures which are thought to be a part of the original decorations.

Parisians were shocked by the fire that erupted on April 15th 2019. It was also a shock to many others around the globe. The Notre Dame de Paris medieval cathedral is one of the most famous buildings in the entire world. By April 22, donations of over €1 billion had been pledged for the cathedral’s reconstruction following an appeal by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Although it was badly damaged, it survived the intense fire. It is estimated that a complete restoration will take approximately twenty years, and it will cost colossal amounts.
