India reports first case of monkeypox — Analysis
According to authorities, the patient is stable after he returned from Dubai.
India reported its first monkeypox infection. The World Health Organization (WHO), which plans to hold an emergency meeting on the global epidemic next week, has announced that India is now the victim.
Veena Georg, state health minister in Kerala said Thursday that the 35-year old patient had been brought back from UAE to Kerala by Veena.
“All the steps are being taken and the patient is stable,”George told the crowd to keep their cool.
He was immediately hospitalized for monkeypox after landing at Thiruvananthapuram Airport. George explained that the authorities had identified eleven of his family contacts as well, including a taxi driver and passengers who were near the patient.

Although the WHO did not declare an emergency worldwide over the monkeypox epidemic last month, it announced Tuesday that they will hold a second emergency meeting after more than 9,000 cases were reported in 60 countries.
