Germany confirms two cases of Omicron — Analysis

Bavaria in Germany has been home to two cases of Omicron coronavirus. Italy and the UK are two other European countries that may have been affected by this mutation.

Bavaria’s health ministry announced late on Saturday that the new strain had been detected in Germany. Omicron was detected in two travelers arriving at Munich Airport on Wednesday. They are self-isolating now. It was unclear from the ministry where their flight originated.

Italy claimed that it has received its first confirmed case. Omicron had been suspected in cases reported by other European nations like the Netherlands and Czech Republic earlier, although these reports have not yet been confirmed. Two cases of Omicron were reported by the UK on Saturday. Health authorities said they had been linked to South African travel.
