Dozens trapped in Turkish building collapse (VIDEOS) — RT World News

At least 13 people were injured when a two-storey structure collapsed in east Turkey. Rescue workers are currently combing through debris and concrete to find more than 20 survivors.

This incident took place Tuesday at Battalgazi (160 kilometres, or 100 miles), north of the Syrian border. Although the cause of the incident is not known, Haberturk was told by witnesses that they saw construction workers erecting a column at a ground-floor business.

Rescue workers managed to pull 13 people from the site by Tuesday evening, according to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD). Battalgazi Mayor Osman Güder told reporters that some 20-25 people were in the cafe in the building at the time of the collapse, adding “I hope we do not have any dead.”

While search and rescue efforts continued, footage captured both the scale of the destruction and panic that was felt in surrounding areas.

“I heard a crack first and then the building collapsed. The building collapsed in a dust cloud. It was like judgement day,”Haberturk was told by Turhan Cobanoglu, witness. Locals say that there was a chicken farm at ground level and a café above. These are where many of the victims may have been when the building collapsed.

Multiple Turkish news sources claim that rescuers heard the cries of survivors from under the rubble.
