VENTURA, Calif. — A man once briefly married to Britney Spears who showed up uninvited at the pop star’s wedding to longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari was charged Monday with felony stalking.
Jason Alexander, age 40, has pleaded not guilty at Ventura County court. He was also charged with the misdemeanors of vandalism, trespassing and battery.
The three misdemeanor charges stemmed directly from Alexander’s attempt to get into the wedding, which he livestreamed on Instagram. Mathew Rosegart, a lawyer for Spears said that stalking involves repeated incidents throughout time.
“He’s going to — I hope, and I pledged my support — be very vigorously prosecuted,” Rosengart said outside the hearing. “It’s a very serious matter. This was more than just a quote ‘wedding crash.’ This was an intrusion.”
Alexander appeared via videoconference from jail and was required to remain at least 100 feet from Spears during the three-year stay. He was set bail at $100,000, and the matter will be heard by the judge on Wednesday.
Matthew Terry didn’t immediately respond to an email that he had sent asking for comment.
Alexander was Spears’ first husband. Before an annulment, the couple were only married for three days.

Spears (40), and Asghari (28) were wed Thursday in her Thousand Oaks home, California in front of several dozen people including Drew Barrymore and Paris Hilton.

Alexander, a childhood friend, was watching live via Instagram when Spears came to his house. Spears’ security team was able to see him in an empty, but well-decorated room.
Deputies responding to a trespassing call detained him, and he was arrested when they learned he had a warrant for his arrest in another county, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said.
Spears, who was married to Kevin Federline from 2004 to 2007, had two children with Federline.
She met Asghari in 2016 on the set of the video for her song “Slumber Party.”
The couple married nine months after Asghari and Spears were engaged. It also happened nearly seven months after Spears was released from the court conservatorship she had held on her for over 12 years.
The nuptials were shared by Spears on Instagram and Twitter the next day.
