5 Important Benefits of Starting a Child Off on a Balance Bike

One of the first tastes of freedom children get is when they learn how to ride a bike. We all have cherished memories of riding our bikes around the neighborhood with our friends. As parents; however, we may not know the best type of bike to teach our small children how to ride. Here are five important benefits to starting a child off on a balance bike.

1- Balance Bikes Do Not Weigh Much

Balance bikes are for the youngest riders. Balancing is the hardest part of learning how to ride a bike. The lighter bike makes it easier for the younger riders to handle it. Not only do lightweight bikes make it easier to learn to ride, they are safer. If a child falls and the bike topples on top of him, he will not get hurt by the weight. He will get up and pick up the bike himself.

2- They Can Handle Most Surfaces

When starting your toddler on a bike, you do not want them zooming away. Balance bikes can ride safely on most surfaces. Plus, you do not need a lot of space. Your new biker can ride around the driveway, in the garden, on the sidewalk in front of the house, or in any other small area. There is no need to hit the bike trails or head to the park just yet.

3- Designers Create Balance Bikes for Small Children

When making the bikes, the company considers the size of the child. The parts are comfortable and safe. Seats are adjustable and close to the ground. If a child wobbles or feels frightened, all they need to do is plant their feet on the ground.

The bikes give children complete control of the speed. They can only go as fast as the toddler can move his legs. It is a plus for the adult who is chasing behind the child.

The balance they learn from riding their smaller bike will help them transition to a more advanced bike. They will be ready for a big kid bike quicker and have an easier time adjusting.

4- Building a Long-Time Love of Exercise

One of the great things about children is they do not view going outside to play as exercise. They know riding a bike is fun. Hop on your bike and enjoy a short family ride around the block. When parents encourage children at an early age to go outside to exercise, they are more likely to continue the habit as they grow older. Riding a bike helps kids continue to develop their fine motor skills and build strength in their legs and arms.

5- Learning to Ride Builds Confidence and Self-Esteem

A balanced bike is the first step to mastering many other things, including a bigger bike, motorcycles, and more. For a child, mastering a small balanced bike is a big step toward being a confident person. They will not be as afraid to try to learn something else.

The bike enables a child to control something new on their terms. In no time, they will learn to push, balance, and steer and will be off on fresh adventures. Building self-esteem will lead to more adventures down the road.
