What Happens in a Nutrition Consult?

Have you signed up for a nutrition consult with a coach? Have you been thinking about doing so? Take a moment to commend yourself for looking at your health and understanding its importance. After all, overall wellness is one of the best gifts you can give yourself.

But, what happens next? What can you expect during a nutrition consult?

Getting to Know You

Your consult is the perfect opportunity for you to get some of your questions answered. And your coach is going to have some questions for you.

Part of the process will include gathering basic information, such as your name, age, weight, height, and the like. While your food journey is not all about your physical attributes, it is necessary when creating a personalized plan for you.

Your coach will want to know what you have tried in the past to lose weight, if any, as well as what did or did not work with them. You may also be asked about your nutrition knowledge, how you currently feel physically and emotionally, and how well-balanced you think your life is.

The nutrition consult only skims the surface. But going forward, all of this information is used in creating a perfect plan for you. The better your coach knows you, the more effective that plan will be.

Eating Habits and Lifestyle Choices

Finding freedom and flexibility when it comes to your nutrition means understanding your eating habits and lifestyle choices.

Habits, emotions, routines, and personal situations often play a large role in determining the foods we eat, how we eat them, and where we eat them. It also determines how we feel about exercise and how much we get each day.

Many times, a nutrition coach will spend a lot of time digging into these things to help you modify your thoughts and behaviors toward food — breaking free from past restraints and mindsets that don’t work. But for the consult, just gaining some perspective of where you are at can help determine how you should move forward.

Daily Fitness Discussion

Fitness is always going to be part of any health journey. You can eat all the right foods and may even have success with weight loss because of it. But for long-term health and to feel your very best, you need to move your body.

Your nutrition consult will touch base on this to see how sedentary or active you currently are in your daily life.

Setting Goals or Action Steps

Setting solid, attainable, and measurable goals is a very important part of working with a nutrition coach.

During your consultation, you will likely touch on goals. The coach may ask you what your goals are for yourself and what you hope to achieve by working with them. This will give them an idea of what it is you are looking for.

All of the real goal-setting will not be put in place until you take a deep dive to work and move forward with the nutrition coach. In the meantime, however, there is a good chance that you will talk about what your action steps should be for addressing your health.

Scheduling Your Follow-Up

Your nutrition consult is only the beginning. If you want to truly find food freedom and have a well-balanced life, then you need to continue working with your nutrition coach, whether one-on-one or in a group setting.

After your consultation, have a plan for your next meeting. This will not only help you feel motivated to start, but it will also allow the accountability to kick in.

Of course, before any of the above can happen, you first have to book your consultation with a nutrition coach.
