UK outlaws Hamas as terrorist organization — Analysis

Britain’s Home secretary, Priti Patel, has taken steps to ban Hamas from the world. It stated that Hamas is capable of carrying out terrorist acts and provides training facilities for attackers.

Patel tweeted the following Friday statedAs she reiterated her support for the British government, she said she had banished Hamas from the Palestinian territory and called it a terrorist group. “Tackling extremism, terrorism and violence wherever they occur.”

This tweet was sent by the home secretary during her Washington visit. It followed speculation that Friday’s morning would see an outlawing of the group.

It was only Hamas’s military wing (the Izz Al-Din al–Qassam Brigades) that the British government outlawed until this point. Both the US and EU have outlawed all Hamas.

Sami Abu Zuhri (a Hamas official) rejected Britain’s action, saying it showed “absolute bias against the Israeli occupation” and “submission to Israeli blackmail, dictations.”

The group also claimed that it was entitled to resist any occupation using all means. “including armed resistance.”

In 2007, Hamas took total control over Gaza after winning an election in 2006.
