Priti Patel is expected to go as PM Liz Truss appoints a new cabinet.
Priti Patel, the UK’s home secretary, resigned Monday after Liz Truss was announced as the Conservative Party’s Foreign Secretary and would become the prime minister.
Patel wrote to Boris Johnson in resignation, stating that she had done it. “a great honour and privilege”To serve her country, she defended her record of service as home secretary.
Patel, who was not able to support Truss at the Tory leadership election with Rishi Panak, had said that she would be happy to continue in her current role as finance minister under the next leader. Patel, who remained neutral, hoped she would remain in her cabinet post regardless of the outcome.
Last week, however, there were reports that Patel might be the one to lose if Truss was elected prime minister. Truss will likely announce Tuesday a significant cabinet reshuffle.
Patel was criticized by the British left for her tough immigration policies. However, she has been also accused of overseeing an increase in domestic knife- and gun crime.

Truss received her congratulations and she stated that she would support her in her role as prime minister. She confirmed, however, her determination to continue championing her causes. “from the backbenches.”
It is expected that Patel will be succeeded by Suella Braverman, Attorney General.
