U.S. Coast Guard Searches for Man Who Jumped Off Cruise Ship
TAccording to Carnival and the Coast Guard, the man jumped off the Carnival Cruise Lines Mardi Gras shortly after midnight. It was located approximately 55 miles (89 km) east of Port Canaveral.
Coast Guard sent two helicopters and two cutters to help search for the man, who was 43 years old. Coast Guard spokesperson David Micallef said that Elation and Mardi Gras also took part in the search.
“The Carnival Care Team is supporting the guest’s family. Mardi Gras,” said Carnival spokesman Matt Lupoli. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest and his family.”
Lupoli reported that the Coast Guard freed the ship from search operations and that it went onward to Port Canaveral. It will keep sailing according to plan.
