Trudeau’s party takes hit in poll — Analysis

Latest polling shows that Conservative Party of Canada has surpassed Liberals and gained 10 percent.

New polling figures show Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party has been overtaken by the Conservatives amid waning support among Canadians for Covid-19 vaccine and mask mandates, and against the backdrop of a major crackdown on the trucker-led protests.

Mainstreet Research’s poll showed that the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC), has seen its support increase by 10 percentage points over the past month. According to the survey, the CPC would win 36% of the votes if there were an election today. The Liberal Party of Canada received 28%.

The polling was conducted last week, starting two days after Trudeau invoked Canada’s Emergencies Act. The move temporarily suspended civil liberties and allowed police to take actions such as increasing their power, freezing demonstrators’ bank accounts without court orders and subjecting crowdfunding platforms to the same laws that are used to prosecute money launderers or terrorist financiers. The survey was completed before footage from Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, showed protesters apparently being trampled by police-mounted horses, dispersed with tear gas, and pummeled with rifle butts.

Half of Canadians say Trudeau ‘not up to the job’ – poll

Mainstreet’s poll found that only 36% still support Covid-19, while 55% favor ending government pandemics. Only two months ago 56% said that they supported another round Covid-19 lockdowns. About 39% of respondents to the latest survey said they strongly oppose Trudeau’s decision to invoke the Emergencies Act, while 38% strongly support the move.

An earlier Maru Public Opinion Poll showed just 16% Canadians would vote Trudeau, based on the actions of Trudeau during the Freedom Convoy trucker protests. Nearly half the survey respondents stated that they believe he is “not up to the job of being prime minister.”

Separately, Mainstreet’s survey revealed strong support among LPC voters for Canadian troops being sent to Ukraine in the event of a Russian invasion. Over 48%, which includes 58% Liberal voters, voted in favor of sending Canadian troops to Ukraine to defeat Russian invasion. 38% opted against such a deployment.

A poll by YouGov and Economist was released this month. Only 13% believed it would be true. “good idea”To send US troops in Ukraine to confront Russian forces.
