Top killer of young Americans revealed — Analysis

A Wednesday report revealed that firearms have become the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages 1 and 19 in America.
The number of gun-related death in America rose 29.5% between 2019 & 2020 according to a paper published by the Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention, University of New England.
Researchers said that most deaths resulted from homicides. Suicides were followed by accidental shootings.
Recent years have seen an increase in fatalities due to firearms in every age group in America. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that in 2020, there were 45.222 of these incidents.

“We knew gun violence had increased but I was surprised by the level of increase for just one year,”The Guardian has been informed that Dr. Jason Goldstick is a researcher for IFIP, and an associate professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan. “I can’t remember ever seeing that before.”
According to the new data, firearm-related death has now overtaken car accidents as leading cause of youth mortality in America. And it’s not the only alarming trend, as drug overdose and poisoning made it to third place in the age group, increasing by 83.6% from 2019 to 2020.
“Although the new data are consistent with other evidence that firearm violence has increased during the Covid-19 pandemic, the reasons for the increase are unclear,”According to the paper.
It also warned that there is no reason for it to return to pre-pandemic levels soon.
