Texas Elementary School Shooting: What We Know So Far

FIn a school shooting in Uvalde Texas, one teacher and thirteen students were killed. According to authorities, the gunman (an 18-year-old boy from the small town) is also dead.

“He shot and killed, horrifically, incomprehensibly, 14 students, and killed a teacher,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott spoke at a press conference hours after Robb Elementary School was attacked by an active shooter.

Abbott reported that the suspect gunman, possibly with a handgun or rifle, entered the elementary school at 11:30 on Tuesday.

University Health in San Antonio is 85 miles east from Uvalde. received two patientsA 10-year-old girl, and a woman aged 66, were both injured in the shooting. Uvalde Memorial Hospital admitted 13 children to the hospital for treatment. It also reported that two bodies had been discovered at the hospital.

Robb Elementary school serves approximately 500 students from second to fourth grades and is dominated by Latinos. Thursday was scheduled to be the district’s last day of school before summer break.

“Texans across the state are grieving for the victims of this senseless crime and for the community of Uvalde,” Abbott said in a statement, adding that state officials would “ensure the community has what it needs to heal.”
