Tesco Hack Attempt Disrupts U.K. Grocer’s Website for Second Day
Tesco Plc announced that the company’s website and its app were unavailable for orders after an unsuccessful hack.
“Since yesterday, we’ve been experiencing disruption to our online grocery website and app,” a Tesco spokesperson said Sunday in an emailed response to questions. “An attempt was made to interfere with our systems which has caused problems with the search function on the site.”
The company said it doesn’t yet know how long it will take to resolve the problem, adding that it has “no reason to believe that this issue impacts customer data.”
Many customers have complained that they have not been able to order grocery delivery.
The grocery store typically receives more than one million orders for electronic groceries per week. Its most recent interim results stated that online sales had surpassed 6 billion pounds (or $8.2 billion). This was due to an increase in demand from Covid-19.
