Spanish authorities detained the ex-head of Venezuela’s military Intelligence. He was in Madrid hiding from extradition requests.

Carvajal, also known as El Pollo (meaning Chicken), was arrested in April 2019 and released by a court after receiving the extradition orders “Too abstract”

Carvajal served from 2004 to 2011 as the military intelligence chief for Chavez. He was later a key figure in Nicolas Maduro’s administration. Later, Carvajal distanced himself from Maduro’s administration. He publicly accused the president of corruption in 2019, and declared his support for Juan Guaido, which is US-backed.

US authorities accuse Carvajal “narco terrorism,” trafficking dangerous drugs into the US, and collaborating with members of the guerrilla group the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), though he has denied these charges and claimed the allegations against him are politically motivated.
