A Polish soldier has died on the country’s eastern border with Belarus, Poland’s military have confirmed, adding that his death was a result of an “accident” and “no third parties” were involved.
The soldier was deployed to the border just about a week ago, Poland’s 17th Wielkopolska Mechanized Brigade said in a statement. His weapon had been accidentally fired according to the initial report. The statement also stated that no third parties were involved.
The deceased soldier also never came in contact with migrants during his service at the border, the brigade command said, adding that the military informed the man’s family and provided them with psychological support.
