How Liberty HealthShare Integrates Faith Into Healthcare Through the Power of Prayer

It’s been said that prayer will get you everywhere, and Liberty HealthShare is spreading that message one member at a time. Faith remains central to its healthcare sharing ministry, where members unite through spiritual connections while sharing eligible medical bills, creating bonds that extend beyond financial assistance.
Members pray for one another during health challenges, along with Liberty HealthShare team members exemplifying Christian principles of mutual aid and spiritual support. Liberty HealthShare facilitates these connections through its member portal, where prayer requests receive attention from the community.
“We encourage it,” Liberty HealthShare Chief Executive Officer Dorsey Morrow says of prayer. “We have a list distributed internally every Friday of prayer requests from our members. It’s one of those times during the day you just stop, you read through it, and then we pray over it.”
Liberty HealthShare’s call center has also been known to pray with its members. “The call center often prays with or for our members when they have a situation that’s difficult to bear. Certainly, we sympathize and empathize where possible,” Morrow adds. “Our call center actually makes strong relationships with a lot of our members because they talk with them so much.”
Daily Devotion Unites Members
The ministry encourages spiritual growth through daily devotionals and scripture readings. Members access these resources through ShareBox, its personalized online portal, fostering a sense of connection to the broader faith community. ShareBox allows members to access program-specific information and resources, view submitted expenses and medical bills, and more. Members can also request and offer prayers through PrayerBox.
Spiritual support flows naturally within the community. Members report feeling uplifted by prayers from fellow participants during medical situations, creating lasting relationships built on shared faith.
Wes Humble, Liberty HealthShare’s executive director of ministry community relations and events, offered prayers in an issue of Liberty HealthShare Member Quarterly magazine. “For those who are struggling with ongoing health issues, we pray for wisdom and support from healthcare providers, family and friends,” Humble wrote.
Morrow recognizes the appreciation members have for its faith-based perspective.
“[We] encourage our members to pray for others,” Morrow reveals. “So it is certainly part and parcel of who we are and what we want our members to be a part of. Now personally, whether they all do it that way, I doubt it, but we want to give them every opportunity to be a part of the family.”
Biblical Principles Guide Healthcare Decisions
Scripture informs the ministry’s approach to healthcare sharing. Members embrace biblical teachings about supporting one another through life’s challenges, including health-related needs.
Dedicated prayer teams respond to member requests, ensuring spiritual care remains available throughout medical situations. This structured approach to prayer support demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to faith-based principles.

After dealing with a job layoff and a diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma, Craig Newman told Liberty HealthShare he “wanted to have something in place to help me through that time of transition.”
Newman mentions he was taken aback by the “support” he received from Liberty HealthShare.
“I see membership … as being part of something bigger, a family. I want to stay part of Liberty HealthShare forever,” Newman remarked.
Liberty HealthShare wants to make one thing abundantly clear. “We’re a community,” it states on libertyhealthshare.org. “Together our members share the weight of their collective medical expenses. We believe the human body thrives when the human spirit does too.”
