Corporate payments and expense management provider Expensify has achieved carbon neutrality for 2021 and plans to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, the company announced.
Expensify has offset 2021’s carbon footprint through support for Amazon rainforest protection, biodiversity projects. Expensify CEO David Barrett said that this achievement was an extension to the company’s ongoing sustainability efforts. This includes donating 10% of swipe revenue from Expensify Card, and a donation of 10 percent.
Barrett said that initiative—dubbed Karma Points—has been “wildly successful” since its early 2020 launch, but added, “Now it’s time to take the next leap and address our own carbon footprint.”
Expensify explained that the next steps will be to purchase additional carbon offsets, and create a “meaningful” carbon reduction plan that addresses supply chain emissions. This will ultimately lead to net-zero emission by 2030.
Expensify’s announcement is the latest in a spate of sustainability-related initiatives announced this week by companies including American Airlines, American Express, Marriott International and Southwest Airlines.
