China reduces ties with US
Beijing has severed communication with Washington in several areas in retaliation for Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan
The Foreign Ministry of China announced Friday that China had decided to end diplomatic relations with the US in several military and civil areas. The devolvement of ties is Beijing’s way of retaliating for this week’s visit to Taiwan by Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.
According to the ministry, there are certain areas where communication will not be possible between American and Chinese officials. This includes meetings between the defense and maritime security consults, as well as cooperation on illegal immigration, judicial aid, transnational criminality, drug control, climate change, and judicial assistance. The statement also stated that a planned telephone call between the senior military commanders from the two countries was canceled.
