Bodies of 2 of 3 Missing Children Found in Minnesota Lake

VADNAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. — The bodies of two young children have been recovered from a Minnesota lake, and searchers are still looking for a third they fear may have been intentionally drowned.

The children’s father died in a separate location just hours prior to their deaths, and the mother has gone missing. No names have been released.

This chain of events began on Friday morning, when the father was discovered dead in a Maplewood mobile home park. After police determined that the mother had fled with the children’s father, a thorough search was launched.

Maplewood Police Lt. Joe Steiner said the woman’s car was found near Vadnais Lake around 4 p.m. Friday. They found the shoes of both children on the beach.

A search of the lake found one child’s body Friday evening. The second child’s body was also found over night. On Saturday, searchers from many organizations worked tirelessly to find the mother and the third.

All three children, according to the authorities were younger than 5.

“There’s nothing more tragic than the loss of young children,” Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher said at a news conference on Friday. He called the deaths a “likely triple homicide.”
