Ballistic & cruise missiles fired in Iranian war games (VIDEO) — Analysis

Iran fired cruise and ballistic missiles and launched them as part of an ongoing five-day military exercise that spanned across Iran and the Persian Gulf. Also, the accuracy and precision of drone bomb drops was praised by the state media.

The second day of Payambar-e Azam 17 military drills was reported by the Iranian state media on Tuesday. The five-day exercise is taking place along the shores of the Persian Gulf, in the Strait of Hormuz, and in the provinces of Hormozgan, Bushehr, and Khuzestan, and involve ground, naval, and air force units from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC).

Tasnim News reports that the IRGC Aerospace Force piloted assault drones above the south coasts of the country on Tuesday. They dropped bombs at predetermined targets with pinpoint accuracy. According to the military, it is now capable of striking two targets simultaneously, a feat that they lauded. 

The troops also used rotary assets to practice aerial support, and naval units were involved in war simulations against hostile drone attack.

According to state television, IRGC units launched cruise and ballistic missiles at the Persian Gulf. “The use of ballistic missiles by the Revolutionary Guards’ navy is a new concept … and they hit their targets with 100% precision,”Broadcaster heard General Hossein Salami of the Guards speak.

Iran’s ballistic missiles have a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles), according to its military, meaning they’re capable of reaching US bases in the region, as well as targets in Israel. The drills are clearly shown in footage from Iranian state television. 

Iran began the exercise Monday by conducting an air-defense drill at Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in the early morning hours. 

Iran also warned arch-nemesis Israel. Iran is alleged to have been responsible for the attacks on two nuclear facilities in Natanz and one on a Karaj centrifuge workshop.

“If Israel carries out attacks against Iran, our armed forces will immediately attack all centers, bases, routes, and spaces used to carry out the aggression,” Major General Gholamali Rashid said, promising a “Crushing” response, according to Nournews.
