3 Tips For Creating An App Meant For Older Audiences

While the younger generations are much more tech-savvy and can easily understand changes and advancements in technology, this doesn’t mean that older generations should be left out of the loop here. Especially if you have a business that targets those in an older generation, it’s vital that you know how to cater your content to them. So if you’re creating or designing an app for this group of people, here are three tips for building an app meant for older audiences.

Make Sure You Give Proper Education

For those of an older generation who didn’t grow up using the type of technology that’s now readily available, there’s going to be a certain learning curve that you’ll need to help them approach.

Knowing this, Lee Wilson, a contributor to Search Engine Journal, advises that you invest both your time and money into educating your audience on how to properly use the app you’re creating. By spelling things out very clearly and offering a lot of explanation and guidance throughout the entire process of using your app, you’ll give your older audience a better chance of finding success through your app and having a positive experience while using it. So while this might take up some space and time, your audience will be well served by these additions.

Write For Your Audience

The text that you include in your app should also be catered precisely to your audience of older users. This can be very challenging for many app developers or designers who generally come from a younger generation.

When creating the text and content for your app, the editors of Business News Daily, recommends that you don’t use any language that’s crude or suggestive. Additionally, you’ll also want to keep from using any jargon or slang that your audience won’t easily recognize. To make things as easy to understand as possible, try to keep descriptions and commands as simple as possible while also clearly stating what benefits your audience will reap from using your product.

Aim For Ease Of Use

Because many people of an older generation aren’t confident in their abilities to work with and understand technology, your goal with your app should be to make it as easy to use as possible.

To do this, Larry Alton, a contributor to SEM Rush, shares that you want to make the use of your app as intuitive as possible. Try to avoid using font sizes or images that are too small and would be hard for senior citizens to read. And when you create text or icons for your audience to click on, try to make the field as large as possible so your audience has the best chance of getting the intended result.

If you’re creating an app that will be used by a number of people in older generations, consider using the tips mentioned above in order to make your app as useful as possible to them.
