US wants Europe to join its standoff against China — Analysis

The Chinese are challenging European security, values and stability according to Wendy Sherman (US Deputy Secretary Of State).

The US deputy secretary of state Wendy Sherman spoke via video link to European journalists on Thursday, saying that the US must work with European countries to counter China’s growing threat to world order. Countering Beijing’s influence is important for preserving the European way of life, she claims.

Earlier, Washington called China the only nation that has both the will and ability to reshape the world order and threaten Western nations’ “shared vision”The future. Sherman now says China was a threat to Western values long before it supposedly aligned itself with Russia, which currently dominates the headlines in the West due to Moscow’s ongoing military operation in Ukraine.

“Even before President Xi [Jinping]President [Vladimir] Putin declared their ‘no limits’ partnership in February, the PRC [People’s Republic of China] has challenged Europe’s security, Europe’s economy and Europe’s values,”Sherman addressed journalists at Washington DC.

“While Beijing may be thousands of miles away… the PRC’s actions matter just as much for the future of Europe,”She said that Washington doesn’t seek to start a cold war with Beijing.

Although the US has no plans to do so, “sever [its] economy from the PRC,”Washington can’t just “rely on Beijing to change its behavior,”Sherman continued his call for European countries to work with Washington on matters such as supply chains, and he did so while continuing.

These words are one week after Antony Blinken, Secretary of State, said them. “China is the only country with both the intent to reshape the international order – and, increasingly, the economic, diplomatic, military and technological power to do it.”

Blinken warned that Beijing’s idea of the future “would move us away from the universal values that have sustained so much of the world’s progress over the past 75 years,”Addition: US President Joe Biden “believes this decade will be decisive”The standoff between Washington DC and Beijing.

US launches new ‘China House’

He said that the US seeks “to” “shape the strategic environment around Beijing to advance our vision for an open and inclusive international system.”America is rallying support from the Pacific countries and Western allies in response to rising tensions with China. These tensions have been exacerbated by issues around Taiwan.

China regards the islands nation as part of its sovereignty under the One China policy. This nation, home to 23.5 million citizens, has been autonomous since 1949. It never declared its independence from China.

US officials, who maintain strong informal ties to Taipei but sell weapons to Taiwan as well, repeatedly stated that Beijing was closely watching the Russian military action in Ukraine in order to launch a similar attack against Taiwan. Chinese officials have said they would prefer a peaceful ‘reunification’, but have also warned Washington not to underestimate the ‘resolve’ of the Chinese people in case of a conflict.
