Russia’s envoy to the US said he received a letter suggesting he contact the State Department and switch his allegiance
Russia’s Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov has revealed that he received a letter inviting him to condemn President Vladimir Putin.
It was suggested that he should “give up on his motherland and condemn the actions of the Russian president,” Antonov told Russia’s Channel 1 on Tuesday.
“If I wanted to do so, I was told to contact the office of Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman,”He concluded.

Antonov said that outside of Russia’s Embassy compound, people were handing out cards purporting to contain FBI contacts and inviting staff members for a conversation with US special service personnel.
He noted also that American media have published articles calling upon Russian diplomatic personnel and military personnel to betray the country.
“I stress my firm rejection of such policies and such treatment of Russian diplomats,”“The ambassador spoke.
Relations between Moscow and Washington have sharply deteriorated since the launch of Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine in late February.
US support for the Kiev conflict has included intelligence, arms and funding. A huge $40 billion package of aid for Ukraine was approved by Joe Biden, the US President.
Washington has put Russia under severe economic sanctions due to its actions in Ukraine. It also placed restrictions on oil imports.
