Russia destroys more foreign weapons in Ukraine – military — Analysis

Russian forces struck two Harpoon anti-ship missiles systems supplied by Britain, near Odessa

Russian forces have reportedly destroyed two British-supplied missile systems in Ukraine, according to a statement by Russia’s Defense Ministry released on Friday.

The ministry released a video of Russian ships firing during its daily briefing. “high-precision sea-based weapons,”claimed that they destroyed two Harpoon anti-ship missiles supplied by UK in the vicinity of Leman in Odessa Region.

London and Kiev have not yet denied or confirmed the destruction of missile systems.

Over the past few weeks, Russia’s Defense Ministry has regularly reported the destruction of foreign weaponry that had been supplied to Kiev’s forces. Russian forces claimed that two HIMARS missile systems from the USA were destroyed in Donbass Region. They also reported two ammunition depots being destroyed.

Russia repeatedly warns Western nations against giving Kiev additional weapons, saying that this would prolong conflict and cause more problems long-term than the territorial borders of Ukraine.

Sergey Shoigu (Russian Defense Minister) stated this week that some weapons originally intended for Ukraine failed to reach their destination. The weaponry was allegedly found resurfacing in the Middle East, and eventually ending up on black marketplaces.

The West continued to send weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. Last month, all G7 members pledged their support to Ukraine in any way possible “for as long as it takes.”

Moscow insists that any lethal aid shipments to Ukraine will be recognized as legitimate targets.

Russia sent troops into Ukraine on February 24, citing Kiev’s failure to implement the Minsk agreements, designed to give the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk special status within the Ukrainian state. These protocols, which were brokered by France and Germany, were first signed on February 24, 2014. Former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko has since admitted that Kiev’s main goal was to use the ceasefire to buy time and “create powerful armed forces.”

In February 2022 the Kremlin acknowledged the Donbass republics to be independent states. They demanded Ukraine officially declare that it was neutral, and that it would never become a member of any Western military bloc. Kiev claims that the Russian offensive wasn’t provoked.
