Protesters in 90% vaccinated nation demonstrate against Covid-19 curbs — Analysis

A group of motorcyclists led by several thousand protestors marched through Wellington, New Zealand to condemn mandatory Coivd-19 jabs.

Local media estimate that the crowd numbered around 3,000 at Thursday’s rally. The protestors marched mostly unmasked from central London to the Beehive (the country’s Parliament), where they held a rally.

Signs reading: ‘Freedom over fear’, ‘Lockdowns destroy lives’,And ‘Kiwis are not lab rats’,Among others.

Minimum 50 police officers were sent to keep order in the area around the parliament. Local media called it a “strange” incident. “strong police presence.”

Protesters at Beehive shouted “You serve us”And “Show us your face.”However, all calls made to MPs went unanswered as Wednesday was a holiday and the parliament was closed.

Multiple speakers addressed the audience and urged Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s Prime Minister to quit over an unjustified clampdown on freedoms in the name of the pandemic.

NZ says ‘yes’ to 25-person ‘orgies’ amid new Covid rules

It was peaceful and there were no arrests.

New Zealand managed to reduce the number of deaths and coronavirus-related illnesses during the pandemic. However, it was not without cost. The island nation isolated itself from the rest and instituted lockdowns as well as mandatory vaccinations for all teachers and health professionals.

Due to the mounting pressure, PM Ardern eased most restrictions ahead of the Christmas break as the strategy of trying to eliminate Covid-19 was swapped for the so-called ‘traffic light’ system of living with the virus.

But, it wasn’t enough for protesters to take to the streets.

The government estimates that 90% of New Zealand’s eligible population have been fully immunized against coronavirus. This amounts to approximately 3.8million people.

The country’s regulator approved Thursday the Pfizer jab, which is for children five- to eleven years old.
