‘Now is the time for independence’ – Scotland’s First Minister — Analysis

Nicola Sturgeon (Scottish First Minister) announced that a second Scottish Independence referendum would be held in October 2023. However, a ‘yes’ vote will not be enough to separate Scotland from the UK.

Sturgeon told lawmakers at Holyrood, Scotland’s parliament, that her government would publish the Scottish Independence Referendum Bill later on Tuesday. It will create a referendum for the next October, in which the same question will be asked to the Scots as during the unsuccessful 2014 independence referendum. “Should Scotland be an independent country?”

“Now is the time… to debate and decide the future of our country…” Sturgeon declared, adding that she would not “allow Scottish democracy to be a prisoner of Boris Johnson or any prime minister.”

This is your chance to be independent.
