Mall of America forced into lockdown after reports of active shooter (VIDEO) — Analysis

A shopping mall in Minnesota was briefly put into lockdown after shots rang out inside on New Year’s Eve

In a shooting at The Mall of America, Bloomington (Minnesota), two people were injured. Shoppers were directed to shelter within the mall as several police arrived on the scene.

At 4.30pm on Friday, the incident ended. The mall was crowded with shoppers looking for gifts several hours prior to the official inauguration of 2022.

The scene captured officers sprinting towards the entrance as shoppers fled the area. While most of the evacuees seem calm, there are still a few screaming voices in the background.

As many people watch, another clip features paramedics caring for an apparent victim to the shooting.

According to police, two victims sustained injuries that were not life-threatening in the shooting incident. Police later revealed that one of the victims had been shot in the leg while the other victim was hit by a bullet to the side. A row broke out between the victim first and shooter at the third floor.

As the scene unfolded, shoppers had to congregate in cramped stores.

“Active shooter. Third floor. For now, safe. What a f’d up story for New Year’s Eve. Can’t wait for a drink later tonight,”Witness tweeted.

After the shooting was reported by police, the lockdown was removed within an hour. Police stated they are no longer looking for any suspects in the shopping center. It’s unclear if anyone was arrested following the shooting.
