Lavrov makes Napoleon and Hitler comparison over Ukraine — Analysis

Washington is now a success where Europe’s conquering dictators in the past failed. This was evident by the ability of Washington to dictate the policies of European countries to its will, Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov claimed on Thursday.

“I can’t help but make these comparisons. Napoleon and Hitler had in the past the aim to subjugate Europe. Now the Americans have subjugated it,”He pointed out.

Washington is an excellent example. “what’s best”Lavrov also mentioned America’s long-running campaign to destroy the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Berlin suspended certification of the fully-completed project as part of anti-Russian sanctions over Moscow’s attack on Ukraine.

Washington tried to stop this project for many years. They claimed it was unsafe and that American liquified gas deliveries were better than European ones, even though they are more expensive, Russian minister said.

“The European Union has been shown its place. The Nord Stream 2 story has shown perfectly the real place that the EU has on the world stage,” Lavrov asserted.

Lavrov explains Ukraine’s jitter regarding talks with Moscow

Lavrov spoke amid tensions that have escalated between Russia and Western countries in the most severe period of time since decades. Moscow declared that an offensive was necessary against Ukraine to secure Russian national security and push NATO out its neighbor.

US and allies called the Russian invasion unprovoked and placed harsh sanctions on Russia to stop it from destroying its economy. The sanctions are expected to have a significant impact on the European economy, since rising energy costs will drive up inflation, EU officials say.

Russian top diplomat noted that the Western story about the conflict reminded him of a Hollywood movie about an epic battle between absolute good and absolute evil. The part for the good was the main focus. “embodied in the character, who is also the script writer.”
