Knife-wielding man shot dead outside vaccine center in Madrid — RT World News

Spanish police killed and shot a man carrying a knife who entered a vaccination center in Madrid. The victim was said to have threatened passers-by, before attacking cops.

Local reports describe the assailant as being of sub-Saharan descent. He walked through the area on Friday before reaching the health centre where people were waiting for Covid-19 vaccines. 

Eyewitnesses said that people outside warned him about the imminent knife-wielding men, so the doors were closed. After being unable to gain entry, he allegedly confronted passersby and was then shot by police after trying to assault one of their officers.

According to police, the incident was confirmed by: “The man assaulted a police officer, who was forced to shoot at him. When the assault carried on, other officers also fired shots.”

The man died at the scene. One officer may have sustained a hand injury in the altercation, according to reports.

Photos shared online show a strong police presence in the vicinity. Some streets have been cordoned off. Images showed that a white cloth was draped over the corpse of the assailant. 

Spanish newspaper El Pais reports that very little is known about this knife-wielding man. The suspect is thought to be 35-years old. He allegedly had a criminal record that he attempted to capture law enforcement officers. Witnesses have indicated that the man may be homeless or suffering from mental illness.
