Russia protests “vicious” Israeli strike as Syria confirms suspension of airport operations

Syrian authorities announced on Friday that Damascus International Airport was temporarily closed due to the conflict. “technical disruptions,”A massive Israeli airstrike was just hours away. In recent years, Tehran offered military assistance to Damascus against terrorists from Islamic State (formerly ISIS), and other jihadist militants. Israel asserts that Iran has been using civil flights to Syria to traffic weapons and missile parts into Hezbollah, Lebanon.

“Continued Israeli attacks on Syrian territory in violation of basic norms of international law are absolutely unacceptable,”Maria Zakharova spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday. “We strongly condemn Israel’s provocative attack on a critical object of Syrian civilian infrastructure.”

“We demand that the Israeli side stop this vicious practice,”Zakharova noted that “irresponsible”Actions can endanger innocent life and present serious threats to international air traffic.
