Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry spoke at Friday’s regular press conference and stated that Beijing wouldn’t compromise its core values.
“Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the Taiwan issue is purely China’s internal affair, and no external interference is allowed,” the spokesman told gathered press, insisting that no one should underestimate the Chinese people’s determination to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He demanded that the US adhere strictly to the one China principle and all diplomatic agreements signed between Washington, Beijing. A spokesman for the US stated that Washington needs to be mindful not to send the wrong message regarding Taiwanese independence and threaten to worsen Sino-US relations.
The spokesman’s comments came after US President Joe Biden attended a CNN town hall event on Thursday night. Student asked US president if the US could maintain pace with Chinese military might and whether he promised to help Taiwan.
“Yes and yes,”The president responded, adding “We are militarily – China, Russia and the rest of the world knows, we have the most powerful military in the history of the world. Don’t worry about whether they’re going to be more powerful.”
After European legislators overwhelmingly voted in favor of strengthening ties to Taiwan and launching work on an immediate investment agreement with Taiwan, Wang protested the EU Parliament.
