Beijing rolls out Covid-19 booster jabs to its residents as Winter Olympics loom, after China passes 1bn vaccinated milestone — RT World News

As Beijing prepares for the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China’s capital began to give Covid-19 booster shots to residents.

Beijing’s residents aged 18 and over who have received two jabs and are considered high-risk, including those participating in, organizing or working at the games, are eligible to come forward for a top-up dose, state media reported on Friday. 

This move is to increase vaccine protection ahead of the Winter Olympic Games that will be held in the city in February. In Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, indoor skiing, jumping, and ski events will be held. Only Chinese citizens are allowed to be there.

Beijing, China was the latest Chinese capital to be infected by coronavirus on Tuesday. 

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, approved the September roll-out of booster shot. Since then, they are available in mainland China, Guangdong and Fujian.

China surpassed the milestone of fully vaccinating one billion of its countrymen against the coronavirus in mid-September, with its homegrown jabs leading the country’s mammoth inoculation campaign. According to a senior health official, the country’s “population coverage rate is among the highest,” worldwide.
