Advocates
for Equal Parenting Rights to Hold Candlelight Vigil at State House, and
in Holliston
July 28--As part of the national Equal Parenting Week (7/26-8/31), CPF-The Fatherhood Coalition will host a candlelight vigil on the State House steps from 7-9 p.m. tonight. The vigil is part of a National Solidarity Event launched by the Children's Rights Council (CRC). CPF - The Fatherhood Coalition advocates for the institution of fatherhood,
encompassing the full range of human behaviors and endeavors that flow
from the father-child relationship. They work to promote shared parenting
and to end the discrimination and persecution faced by divorced and unwed
Earl Sholley, director of the CPF-The Fatherhood Coalition states, "The need for equal parenting rights is of national concern. Children suffer the most from anachronistic court policies that fail to recognize the importance of both fathers and mothers. Family courts must be demilitarized, and strong equal parenting rights codified in the law and upheld in the courts." Nationwide nearly 40 percent of children live without their fathers. In Massachusetts, according to a recent study, the fatherless rate is 29 percent. Sholley, is directing the event and will be at the State House throughout the day, passing out literature. Supporters are encouraged to come early and help Sholley get the word out to the legislature. He will be in the State House book store between 2 and 2:15 p.m. for those who would like to meet early, and help. There will be a similar vigil in downtown Holliston, put on by non-custodial
father, Michael Brumber. It will be on the church green in the middle
of town at 8:30.
