Father
Commits Suicide
Jailing for phone call leads to tragedy
Massachusetts News Staff
A 48-year-old Needham father committed suicide in April because he had
been put in jail for telephoning his four-year-old daughter on the wrong
day of the week. He had mistakenly called her on Monday instead of Sunday.
He had also been accused of assault and battery against his wife but
a jury cleared him of those charges.
For the crime of calling his daughter on Monday, he had been sent to
the Dedham House of Correction on January 29. He was released on April
2. He committed suicide on April 24.
He was crippled because of an accident and had lost his home, his child
and even his tools because he wasn’t allowed to go to his house to retrieve
them.
His attorney, Jerome Aaron, says that his jailing was "outrageous."
