Group Holds Vigil in Springfield
FACT gathers tonight under "Vitoria" billboard March 15 -- Fathers advocacy group, Father and Children Together (FACT) will hold a vigil Wednesday, March 15, 2000 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the corner of East Columbus and Howard Street beneath the "Victoria" billboard posted on the Burstein Law Offices. In attendance will be fathers, grandparents, friends and extended family members who have been touched by divorce and separation in which minor children have been systematically alienated from their fathers. At the vigil, a spokesperson from FACT will publicly address the manner in which magistrates of the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court advocate sex discrimination against fathers in their implementation of law with regard to raising children. The forum will also discuss issues such as the manipulation of the Court by special interests which trades off the best interests of children, and how today's kids are held hostage by the law while fathers, who want to nurture them on at lease an equal basis, are denied access. The "Victoria: We want you back . . ." billboard represents just one example of the injustice imposed on children after the dissolution of marriage. Victoria's story is compelling because it manifests an issue in which the Court allows the removal of children from the Commonwealth away from fathers who demonstrate a willingness and ability to care for them within the state.
