Poll Funded by Pro-Abortion Forces Supports Christian Coalition

January 29 -- Executive Director of Christian Coalition of Massachusetts, Evelyn Reilly, reacted today to the results of a poll funded by the Center for Gender Equity (CGE).

Mrs. Reilly said, "It is ironic that Fay Wattleton, former president of Planned Parenthood, the world's number one promoter of the culture of death, has paid for a poll demonstrating that in the past two years, women aged 18 and over:

  • Are turning away from abortion large numbers
  • Approve of the Christian Coalition
  • Have a more positive attitude toward religious values in politics
  • Are becoming more religious
  • Think religious leaders and groups have a positive impact on society.

"To Wattleton's dismay, the poll shows that by a 2-1 ratio, women have a favorable attitude toward Christian Coalition's impact on women's lives, supporting Christian Coalition's contention that we represent the mainstream majority of the American people.  Our pro-family agenda of respect for human life at all stages, parents' right to raise children without government interference, religious freedom, local control of education, and lower taxes on families, is what the majority of women want.

"A 1996 Wirthlin poll showed that 80% of women, if finances were not a concern, would prefer to stay home full time and care for their own children.  The same year a Glamour Magazine poll showed that 84% shared that view.  What is the problem?

"At the end of World War II the combined state and federal tax burden on families was 3%.  It is now about 40%, which means that one person is working to support the family, and the other is working to support the government!  Lower taxes on families would once again give them a real choice about who cares for their children.

"Women can see that Christian Coalition is working to help them and their families."
