Is
Lesley College "Anti-Phonics?"

They say, "Whole language is a philosophy about the teaching of reading and literature. Phonics is a specific way to approach word recognition or word analysis." They are sending a complete report on the subject which we will publish in full in our next issue. The father who went to jail for six months after refusing to sign a "confession" required by a private "re-education program" for "batterers" is still in the jail. The private company had demanded that Harry Stewart sign a statement admitting that he is a violent person. However, he was only accused of opening the main door to his five-year-old son’s apartment house after returning him from a visitation. One must wonder if the owners of this "re-education" center received their training in Cambodia? Churches to Help Blacks and Latinos Go To College Many area churches will be helping blacks and Latinos with their plans to attend college as the result of a new program from the Emmanuel Gospel Center, which is made possible through a $200,000 grant from the Nellie Mae Foundation, plus help from others. The director will be Ingrid Broadnax, from Lynn, who was formerly at St. Paul’s AME Church in Cambridge. Told by her high school counselor, "You will not make it through college," she graduated from Boston College and received her Masters from Columbia University. Charter Flights from Chicago for Pedophiles? Will United Air Lines be sending "Pedophile Charters" from Chicago to Boston? Some of our librarians appear to hope so. It’s obvious that someone in the Minuteman Library Network has some very strange ideas, but it’s impossible to believe that the dedicated, excellent people who have been helping us all these years are "deviants." Who are the strange people who are still recommending that teenagers visit the site run by pedophiles in Chicago? If nothing else bothers the librarians, their own guidelines forbid a link to that site because it has a "chat room" where the youngsters are encouraged to talk with other, unknown people. (See "Coalition for Positive Sexuality" at www.positive.org) If you think we’re exaggerating, don’t forget the 59-year-old lawyer from Dover who was met by the FBI earlier this year after he flew to SanFrancisco to have sex with a 13-year-old boy he met on the Internet. Democratic Fundraiser Remains At WGBH President Henry Becton has "accepted responsibility" for the WGBH scandal, but he still remains at the station, and he has not asked for the resignation of Alan Solomont as a Director even though Solomont continues as an important fund raiser for the DNC. One must wonder, how did Becton punish himself after he "accepted responsibility" for damaging the entire PBS system? Shoplifting Is Cute: Boston Globe The Boston Globe’s official position appears to be that shoplifting is "cute," at least if it was their columnist, Brian McGrory, who was the culprit. In a tendentious article, he says that his shoplifting as a youngster was a "private sin." The logic that larceny is a "private" matter is as difficult to follow as the rest of his essay. But it’s definitely the official logic of the Globe because he goes on to tell us that Bill Clinton’s huge use of power to intimidate women was also a "private" sin. As I remember it, McGrory and his ultra-feminist friends at the Globe were some of those who invented Sexual Harassment. Now we are told that the concept which they invented is a "Puritanical invasion." For McGrory and the rest of the Globe, there is no truth, no right or wrong, only how it makes you feel. Maybe McGrory and Globe Are Advising Psychiatrists Maybe McGrory and the Globe were the ones who helped the psychiatrists change their definition of a pedophile so that now the molester is not "disordered" unless he feels bad about what he did. Does Globe Approve of Cheating at Colleges? College students are being forced to cheat because so many other students do it and get good grades, according to a study by a professor at Rutgers University. But this won’t bother the Globe and its cute columnist, Mr. McGrory. To them, this is only a "private sin;" so why be concerned? When anyone watches a video of the "hate" meeting held in Newton last spring after Massachusetts News sent a mailing about pedophilia to the city, the one thing that is apparent from the start is the arrogance of teachers and administrators. The message is, "Parents, Stay Out! Don’t question us! We are in charge!" (See the story in this issue.) Andre John is honored by Celtics The young man who was spotlighted by us in our first issue for his work with children in Roxbury and Dorchester, Andre John, was honored last month by the Boston Celtics. He was recognized as a "Hero Among Us" at the game on October 27 because of his "commitment and work with underprivileged children." A devoted Catholic Christian, John puts his faith into helping others. Tragic Absence of Fathers Seen Once More The tragic loss of fathers for so many youngsters
in Massachusetts is seen once again in the revelations that the drugging
of young boys by our schools with Ritalin (it’s mostly boys who receive
it) is largely because they do not have a father. Even the Boston Globe
is alarmed; but, of course, they do not reveal that it is mainly boys who
are targeted by the schools. (See the story in this issue.)
