Politicians
should be Drug Tested
Most of Today’s Youth are Sexually Active Father Wants Children Returned from DSS Harry Stewart was Trapped by Wife Politicians should be Drug Tested I operate a motor vehicle that transports a hazardous material. I’m also a member of the Air National Guard. For both of these activities I am subject to random drug testing. Also, if suspect, I must volunteer to an immediate drug test. I believe every politician should be subject by law to these same random drug tests. Legal use of drugs "past or present" should be kept confidential. Past or present illegal drug use, however, must not inhibit a political leader’s clear judgment of existing issues. I feel hiding the use of illegal drugs is dishonest. If a political candidate or a present politician admits to experimenting with illegal drugs, at least honesty is present. Let the people decide. An illegal drug testing precedent should be instituted today. Our President Clinton should be asked to tell the truth and, as well, be tested to set this in motion. – Donald O. Rajotte
Most of Today’s Youth are Sexually Active Our staff secretary brought your newspaper to my attention this morning with great concern about its content and focus on homosexuality. It’s always a breath of delight when a heterosexual colleague recognizes and speaks out on the topic of gay misconceptions and media misinformation by the conservative press. Most youth of today become sexually active during their teenage years. Despite many attempts, the conservative media has had little impact on keeping the heterosexual teenage community from expressing their sexuality and engaging in sex before marriage. Heterosexual teenagers can decide and are deciding that they are heterosexual, but you believe that gay teenagers are too young to recognize or understand their sexual identity. As with most conservative ploys, this shows an obvious double standard. Your continued report on homosexuality does nothing to lessen the number of homosexuals in the world, but it does everything to increase the hate and misunderstanding of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people and to increase the stress and confusion that pushes so many gay and lesbian youth to suicide. These teens who commit suicide did not find "welcoming gay community centers." They were without valid information and, worse, overcome with misinformation like that which is printed in Massachusetts News. I am thankful that the voice of truth rings clear through major media publications. Anyone can dig up statistics to prove any point. But when you look at people, credentials and methodology, it’s clear where the truth lies. – Curtis W. Hoover
Father Wants Children Returned from DSS I am the father of four children. Two are from my first marriage and two are from a relationship with my girlfriend. My youngest two were placed voluntarily with the Department of Social Services last year by my girlfriend. I have been fighting and working very hard to get my children returned to me, but DSS is dragging their feet. My three-year-old daughter has been moved to three different foster homes due to her behavior and inability to adjust being separated from her family. I filed a letter last January to rescind the voluntary placement of my two children. DSS then took the matter to court and obtained legal custody. I want my children returned to me. It is very difficult to fight the DSS on my own without any support. My girlfriend and I do not live together anymore, and she is not involved with the children. I visit them once every week. DSS is not involved with my older children at all. I don’t understand why I am allowed to have them but not my little ones, ages 3 and 1. I want them to come home. – Kevin Dimock
Harry Stewart was Trapped by Wife In my opinion, Harry Stewart’s wife set a trap and he fell for it. Surely, she knew their five-year-old child could not open the outside door; and if she delayed long enough, he would go and open the door. If he drove off, he would be negligent. As for signing the state’s batterers’ confession, which would be used in court at a later date, doesn’t the Fifth Amendment apply? I also wonder how many women in the courtroom would have applauded if it were their son or brother being sentenced to jail. –Edmond Bourgeois
